Gainesville, Florida – North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) and Charles Perry Partners, Inc. (CPPI) will be holding a Topping Out Ceremony to celebrate the milestones made in the South Tower Expansion Project on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. All of the metal framework for the new construction project will be set in place, and the steel beam that was unveiled during the South Tower Expansion Ceremony on May 13, 2019, will be hoisted to the top of the building to be added to the construction. This steel beam was signed by staff and friends of NFRMC and CPPI during that ceremony, and its addition to the construction is a traditional blessing of unity and prosperity for the future of the space.
A “Topping Out” Ceremony is a construction trade tradition, which marks the point when the structure’s highest element is hoisted into place, a practice that was started in Scandinavia over 1,000 years ago. The ceremony also is meant to honor all of the workers who created the space and celebrate those who are to inherit it once it’s complete (in this case, NFRMC staff and patients).
The South Tower Expansion project is a $90 million construction project, which will add three additional floors and 78 private patient rooms to the South Tower. A new 850 spot parking garage is also being added to the facility to accommodate the projected staff and patient volume increase resulting from this new expansion. NFRMC will also be adding 269 additional jobs as a result of this expansion, further benefiting the North Central Florida community.
The Topping Out Ceremony will be held on the front lawn of NFRMC near the CPPI construction entrance. NFRMC and CPPI leaders will address attendees and be available to the media after the event’s conclusion.
