On November 17, eda was invited to attend the “topping out” ceremony for the upcoming Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Gainesville. Traditionally held when the last beam is placed atop a structure during construction, this event is “a celebration ceremony for the all the workers out here who’ve put in the hard work to get us to this point in the project,” says Ben Williams, President of Accelerated Contracting Services, contractor for the project. eda is proud to be included in that group of people, along with the many construction laborers, tradespeople, architects, engineers, contractors, and many many more. It takes a village to erect a building! Not only was it an exciting celebration, but it was also a unique opportunity for a few eda employees to get a birds-eye view of our city! I think we can see our office from there…
The Hyatt Place Downtown is located at 201 SE 1st Street, and will contain 143 hotel rooms, 39 residential units, and 16,000 square feet of restaurant/retail space. It is expected to be completed by Summer 2022. eda prepared fully engineered civil construction plans and coordinated with GRU and the City of Gainesville to solve some of the unique challenges that come with new development in the dense downtown area. eda believes that the Hyatt Place Downtown aligns with the the vision of the City of Gainesville’s Strategic Plan, by contributing to a vibrant/alive downtown area, and we are proud to be a part of the project team.
